I was intrigued. I had received a text messagefrom my friend Mandy, who said that she had something very important yet sensitive to tell me, and would I be able to meet up with her some time soon. Of course I called her immediately and we arranged to meet the following day in a quiet wine bar in the town, she wouldn't come to my house for some reason, wanted me on my own without the interruptions from my husband or kids. We met outside the wine bar and she ushered me into a quiet corner at the back, I could see that she looked pretty anxious and all sorts of things were running through my mind. She and her husband Colin had been good friends of our for years, but they had separated a few months before and nobody had really got to the bottom of the reason, they had seemed so happy, like the proverbial perfect couple right up until the split. People assumed that it was because they had not been able to have children, although nobody really knew why.

'I've got something really important to tell you that I've kept quiet for a long time', she started, 'and I only hope that you don't judge me because I couldn't bear that'. I just nodded okay and let her speak. 'I've been dating women behind Colins back for a while now', she continued, 'I can't explain the attraction, it's something I fought with for years.Anyway, I think that somebody has told Colin that I've been dating women, apparently there's been a lot of gossip and teasing going on at work and I feel dreadfully sorry for him, but now I've fallen in love, her name is Yvonne'. I was stunned. It wasa lot to take in at one go, your best friend leading this double life, everyone had hoped that she and Colin would get back together, but not with this bombshell. At first I was a little upset that she hadn't confided in me earlier about dating women, but I could see her point and realised how difficult it was for her to talk about it even now. Apparently she had met Yvonne on a blind date, and they had fallen in love in the candle light, simple as that. I assured her that I was still and always would beher best friend, even if she had been dating women, and thatwe would be there to support Colin through the hard time which was surelycoming his way.
