Way back in 2004, my best friend and I were both 25-year old single ladies – that is, both pretty unattached, available, and each going out on dates as we were searching for our own respective true love! But wait, it was also in that same year when that dear friend of mine introduced to me the use of Internet.
It actually happened one late night after leaving another friend’s dinner and dance party. It was then like “Thank God it’s over!” for me -- because almost throughout the party, she really got me so bored as she kept on babbling about her latest internet chat friend. In a way, I could have been interested, too, for Internet and online dating were some new experience, but the fact is that her stories were sort of nothing new to me anymore. She had always been like that for almost a month already! Oh, always so ecstatic -- relating to me literally every single detail of her new high-tech adventures on online dating.
Anyway, I was wrong when I first thought “Thank God it’s over!” for it was quite far from over. Although I played sleepy as soon as I sat myself on the passenger seat, just a few minutes after, I suddenly found myself being dragged out of the car. Once out, my best friend gave me big hug, even did a bit sharp tickle on my side and said, “Surprise!” There we were -- standing right in front of an Internet Cafe. Then again, she grabbed a firm hold of my hand and headed straight on to the entrance door. Considering that I was only hitching a ride home from her, I was left with no other choice but to shrug off my shoulder and get along with her. So, that was it!
From then on, my best friend really got so hooked on internet and eventually, with online dating sites and stuffs.
“Oh my! He’s really adorable...” or “Hey! You wouldn’t believe this... but I’m telling you, he’s so handsome!”
Those are just a couple of her sample opening lines everytime we see each other afterwards... but guess what? It did her good! Oh, yes! Now, she’s getting married for she has finally found her match... her own Mr. Right!
Hm.... maybe I should give online dating sites my best shot, too. As a bit conservative as I am, I may not be that easily comfortable with online dating like before but hey, if she can do it, I can do it too! Please wish me luck! Of course, I also want to meet my own Mr. Right!
