Dating sites are an increasingly popular medium in the online community. It seems you can't walk two virtual feet without running into ads for dating sites, or "limited time" offers for these dating sites. I know someone that once went on a blind date set up by one of those dating sites, it didn't go well at all. It was an absolute nightmare. Awkward conversation, bad restaurant, horrible atmosphere, flatulence... you name it!

It doesn't surprise me at all though to know that it didn't turn out well. If your only form of contact with someone is behind a monitor with a keyboard and mouse, it's almost destined to fail. I've never heard of a proposal story that started with: "Well, we met on Yahoo messenger when he sent me a whisper and a nudge..."

Actually going out and interacting with people is the way to go. It will take a bit of trial and error for a while, but eventually they'll find love, a lot faster being out in the world rather than being hobbled up in a dark corner at 2AM on Random-Dating-Site.com updating their blog and status. I'm watching one of my favorite TV shows and the main plot of the episode revolves around a blind date. It seems that blind dates are almost never good. It makes you wonder if the people that set up the blind date actually had your best interest at heart, or if they were just having a go with you.

I've been on several blind dates, and none of which turned out to be any more than tolerable at best. It seems without a proper connection before the date there's next to no chemistry to build from. You hope that the only person shares at least one of your interests so you can b uild a conversation around it, otherwise you'll be doomed to a long awkardly silent dinner. It can make a twenty minute dinner feel like a two hour dinner. It's truly agonizing.

I remember during one of my blind dates all my date did was use very corny puns. They were so unfunny and lame, but to make it even worse after she'd fire off one of these terrible puns she'd cackle afterwards as if she just struck comedic gold and was basking in her own glow. I was actually playing slapstick moments in my head where I imagined grabbing a creme pie off of one of the waiter's trays and mashing it in her face and walking out of the date. Of course I didn't do that, and it turned out to be just another boring, awkward blind date. Such is life.
